"Sometimes, life pushes you to a crossroads, and that’s when you truly discover your purpose,"

My journey into social service has been anything but conventional. I started my career as a fashion designer, immersed in the creativity and excitement of the industry. Fashion, after all, is about expression, beauty, and trends. But over time, I began to see something troubling beneath the glamour, the environmental impact of the fashion world. The pollution, the waste, and the exploitation were things I could no longer ignore.

I vividly remember sitting in my studio one day, surrounded by vibrant fabrics, and asking myself: “Am I really making a difference, or am I just contributing to the problem?” That question haunted me, and for the first time, I realized the role I played in the negative side of the fashion industry. I could no longer turn a blind eye. I knew I had to change direction, not just in my career, but in the way I approached the world. I wanted to be part of the solution, not the problem.

To equip myself, I completed an Integrated MBA (BBA + MBA) and a Bachelor of Commerce, focusing on understanding business dynamics and sustainability. I also pursued an MA in English, which gave me the skills to communicate effectively and tell compelling stories that could spark action. In addition, I’m currently pursuing research in Environmental Science at the doctoral level, as I believe that to truly make a difference, it's essential to deeply understand the science behind the environmental challenges we face.

That’s when I started exploring the world of sustainable development. This search for meaningful work led me to Marpu Foundation. Marpu means ‘change,’ and I immediately connected with its mission. The foundation was born from a simple but powerful idea: ‘If you don’t like something, change it.’ This resonates with me deeply. Instead of complaining about the state of the environment or waiting for others to act

Joining Marpu also helped me reconnect with sustainable fashion, and I’m now exploring eco-friendly, ethical production as a way to balance creativity with responsibility. This unexpected journey has been incredibly fulfilling, proving that change is never easy, but it’s always worth it.  At Marpu Foundation, we take that first step toward lasting transformation, together.

The stories I’ve witnessed, the change I’ve seen, and the people I’ve worked with have taught me one thing: change is never easy, but it’s always worth it. Whether it’s changing your own path or changing the world around you, the key is to take that first step. And that’s exactly what we do at Marpu Foundation - we take that first step, together.
